Wall-to-wall inventory underway at Laboratory

Damian Romero of Property Management (BUS-6) uses a barcode reader to inventory a beam focusing magnet on the beam line at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) at Technical Area 53. The red light emitting from the barcode reader (photos below) scans the property number on the piece of property. The information is recorded in the barcode reader and then uploaded to the Lab's property database at the Logistics Center BUS-6 has established at TA-00 on DP Road. The Logistics Center was set up as a means of controlling the inventory effort from a central location. It includes a chart that tracks the inventory by Laboratory organization. Fifty-two property administrators are conducting the Labwide inventory. The wall-to-wall inventory of controlled personal property is expected to take about four months to complete and the Laboratory will report its findings to the Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration this fall. For more information on the wall-to-wall inventory see the Feb. 3 Daily Newsbulletin or go to the wall-to-wall inventory Web page. Photos by LeRoy N. Sanchez, Public Affairs
