Labs' Clark to speak Thursday on "Issues Surrounding Plutonium"

David L. Clark of Nuclear Materials Technology (NMT) and director of Los Alamos' Glenn T. Seaborg Institute for Transactinium Science will talk about "Issues Surrounding Plutonium" at 5 p.m., Thursday, in the University of New Mexico Education Conference Center, Room G, 1634 University Blvd., N.E. in Albuquerque.

Clark will describe some of the unique physical and chemical properties that make plutonium so unique. He will discuss some of the major issues surrounding plutonium, spanning its application in planetary and deep space exploration to reducing the nuclear danger surrounding weapons of mass destruction. Clark also will present the technical and policy options that are considered for responsibly dealing with the large plutonium inventory and their link to current events and international treaties.

The talk is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served at 4:30 p.m. For more information, see the Feb. 5 Daily Newsbulletin or call (505) 277-2941.
