Lab's Diversity Affirmative Action Board seeks applicantsThe Laboratory's Diversity Affirmative Action Board is accepting applications to fill a vacancy.Applicants must be a University of California Lab employee and prospective members are asked to commit approximately 10 percent of their work time to board meetings and activities. The prospective member's organization will fund the work time spent on DAAB activities, thus demonstrating one aspect of the organization's commitment to diversity. Before selection, all prospective members must obtain their respective manager's written agreement to this time commitment. The DAAB meets from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month. Other meetings are called as necessary. This year, the DAAB has chosen as its primary initiative to propose options in Laboratory employee practices that will lead to a more respectful workplace for all workers. According to the Diversity (DVO) Office, such changes will improve employee retention by increasing morale and productivity and help the Laboratory achieve its goal of being the employer of choice. Prospective volunteer members must complete an application form, which is attached to the call for nominations being distributed via electronic mail to the Lab work force. The form also can be downloaded at http://int.lanl.gov/memos/alldist/LANL_ALL359.PDF online (Adobe Acrobat Reader required). A list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) is available at http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/dvo/Teams/DAAB/DAABFAQs.pdf online (Adobe Acrobat Reader required). Or contact Danny Valdez of the Diversity (DVO) Office at 5-7215 or write to dlvaldez@lanl.gov by electronic mail. For more information about what the board does and how it operates, see the DAAB Charter and Bylaws at http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/dvo/Teams/DAABCharter.pdf online (Adobe Acrobat Reader required).
