Art and science is focus of Director's Colloquium todayThe link between art and science will be brought into focus by optics professor Charles Falco at a Director's Colloquium at 1:10 p.m., today, in the Physics Building Auditorium at Technical Area 3.The colloquium also will be shown live on Labnet Channel 9 and on desktop computers through streaming video (www.lanl.gov/media). Falco will discuss artist David Hockney's observations that certain drawings and paintings from as early as the Renaissance era had photographic-like detail. Falco is a professor of optical sciences at the University of Arizona, where he holds the named professorship of "University of Arizona Chair of Condensed Matter Physics." He is a fellow of both the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America, has published more than 250 manuscripts, co-edited two books and holds seven U.S. patents.
