Providing warmth for the less fortunate

Scouts from Troop 414 in El Dorado joined employees from the Laboratory and Johnson Controls Northern New Mexico last Saturday to load a truck full of wood for distribution to needy homebound and elderly people in Northern New Mexico. Volunteers hauled more than 40 truckloads of split wood to people in Truchas, El Rito, Espanola, Dixon, Velarde and other areas. Wood recipients had been identified through area relief agencies. The wood came from forest thinning efforts at the Laboratory under the auspices of the Cerro Grande Fire Rehabilitation Project. Dave Tainter, an Espanola-area businessman, donated his property and equipment as a staging and splitting area for the mountain of wood that later was given away. Photo by James E.
