Ceremony marks transfer of DOE land to San Ildefonso PuebloSan Ildefonso Pueblo Gov. John Gonzales, standing left, shakes hands with U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., during a news conference Thursday in the Math and Science Technology Center at Santa Fe Indian School. The news conference was held to announce the transfer of Department of Energy land to San Ildefonso Pueblo. Los Alamos County also is receiving more than 100 acres of land. DOE is transferring 10 tracts of land to Los Alamos County and San Ildefonso Pueblo under Public Law 105-119. Under that law, DOE had to identify parcels of land that were no longer considered necessary to the Laboratory's mission. Seated at left is Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham. Also taking part in the ceremony were Ralph Erickson, Office of Los Alamos Site Operations manager, and Los Alamos County Councilor Geoff Rodgers, right. "Today we are taking a course of action that entrusts local residents and officials as the most faithful stewards of these lands," Abraham said. "This is among the best ways to express our appreciation to these communities who have been such good neighbors for so many years." Photo by LeRoy N. Sanchez, Public Affairs
