Otowi Building sidewalk project on scheduleWith major excavation well underway and electrical and concrete work scheduled start in the next week or two, the Otowi Building - J. Robert Oppenheimer Study Center sidewalk project at Technical Area 3 continues on schedule for completion before Thanksgiving. Crews have been removing major asphalt and concrete structures from the site and will begin the electrical work as a precursor for the pouring of new concrete sidewalks. "When finished, the area will be very well lit, so there's quite of bit of electrical work in the project," said Nick Nagy of the Project Management (PM) Division. Crews will be working an accelerated schedule, including some weekend work, to meet the Thanksgiving deadline and to reduce the inconvenience associated with navigating the construction zone. "We realize this is a high-traffic area for pedestrians so we're doing our level best to keep the hassle to a minimum," said Nagy. Facilities and Waste Operations (FWO) Division is managing the project and according to Nagy is doing an excellent job. "They have unique expertise with sidewalks, light poles and such, and they've taken a very proactive role in managing the project with pedestrian safety in mind," Nagy said. Photo by LeRoy N.
