Officials tour new Emergency Operations Center

Laboratory officials and invited guests on Thursday toured the Laboratory's new Emergency Operations Center under construction at Technical Area 69. In this photo, visitors stand in what will be the secondary area of the new facility. The area to the right is what will be the primary area of the EOC. The Austin Co. of Irvine, Calif. is the general contractor for the 38,000-square-foot facility, which has space for 120 people. The facility includes office space for agencies including the neighboring pueblos, FEMA, the National Guard, State Police, the Red Cross, New Mexico Emergency Management, the Department of Energy and the Lab.

Keith Orr of the Project Management (PM) Division describes features of one of the rooms in the new EOC. At center in photo is Jim Holt, deputy Laboratory director for operations. Directly behind Orr wearing green shirt is George Van Tiem of Emergency Management and Response (S-8). The new facility is scheduled to open in September 2003. For more information about the new EOC, go to the Web site at http://pmweb.lanl.gov/pqm/projects/eoc/eoc_index.htm online. Photo by John Bass, Public Affairs
