Friday 'Spirit Walk' not a protest of the Laboratory

A walk up East Jemez Road by a couple dozen people on Friday is not a protest of Laboratory operations, according to organizers.

About 20 to 30 people are planning to walk from Tsankawi ruins to Ponderosa Campground beginning at about 10 a.m. Friday, walk organizers told Lab security officials. Walkers in "The Spirit Walk for Mother Earth"will stay on the shoulder of roadways and do not intend to hinder traffic. And although the walkers plan to travel past Technical Area 3, they do not plan to stop on Lab property, organizers have said.

The group, which includes a dog and two support vehicles, plans to spend the night at Ponderosa Campground.

Motorists using Jemez Road and NM 4 near the Back Gate should stay alert to the possibility of walkers on the shoulders of the roads.
