Services Saturday for Lab employee killed in auto accidentA funeral mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in Española for Laboratory employee Sam Serrano of Materials Management (BUS-4). Serrano was killed in an automobile accident Tuesday on NM 30.The mass is in Sacred Heart Church in Española. Serrano worked at the Laboratory 33 years, all in BUS-4. "He was a hard worker and extremely dedicated to his job," said Carol Smith, BUS-4 group leader. "Sam was a co-worker and friend to so many people at the Laboratory. His unexpected death is a great loss to BUS-4 and the Laboratory. "He was a dynamo, zipping around the Laboratory, picking up Fed-Ex packages and documents for processing," Smith continued. "He always took his job seriously. He will be remembered for being a man of action, always ensuring that outbound Fed Ex mailings/packages got out in time." He is survived by his wife, Ferminia, daughters, Christine Serrano of Pit Disassembly and Nuclear Fuels Technology (NMT-15), and Emily Gallegos and husband Misha who works for Johnson Controls Northern New Mexico; son Samuel Jr.; mother, Santana Serrano; two grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. --Steve Sandoval Other Headlines Atmospheric monitoring station dedicated in Darwin, Australia more...
