30th anniversary of LAMPF/LANSCE Accelerator

Proton accelerator pioneer and retired Los Alamos researcher Louis Rosen, center, is flanked by Laboratory Director John Browne, left, and Paul Lisowski, Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) division leader, at the June 20 celebration marking the 30th anniversary of the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) reaching full energy. Today’s world-class high-intensity pulsed proton source at Los Alamos had its origins in LAMPF, where Rosen and others developed the world’s most powerful linear accelerator, attaining 800-million-electron volt protons in June 1972.
