Pioneer race car driver to give safety talk at LabRace car driver, sports writer and travel photographer Denise McCluggage will focus on "The Undistracted Driver" at a safety colloquium at 1:10 p.m., Monday, in the Physics Building Auditorium at Technical Area 3. Originally planned for last Sept. 11, the rescheduled talk is co-sponsored by the Integrated Safety Management program office (ISM) and the Health, Safety and Radiation Protection Division (HSR). The talk is free and open to the public and will be shown on Labnet Channel 9. McCluggage, a racing pioneer, is the recipient of Ken W. Purdy Award for Excellence in Automotive Journalism, the Dean Bachelor Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Media Association. She was involved at the inception of Competition Press (now AutoWeek magazine) for which she is a columnist and senior contributing editor. She has a syndicated newspaper column and edits an Internet car magazine, www.roadrunning.com online. McCluggage is the first journalist to be admitted to the Automotive Hall of Fame in Novi, Mich. She has written several books and writes a weekly column for the Santa Fe New Mexican. She also is a frequent speaker on driver and traffic safety.
