DOE's genome institute to sequence infectious bacteria

The Department of Energy's Joint Genome Institute of which the Laboratory is a co-founder, is helping identify infectious bacteria, a first step toward developing tests that can be used to rapidly identify their presence in the environment.

The Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Joint Genome Institute was created in 1997 by the Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore and Lawrence Berkeley national labs, all operated by the University of California for DOE.
