Geographic information systems seminarMichael Goodchild, professor of geography at University of California, Santa Barbara and chair of the Executive Committee for the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) addresses a group of Laboratory employees at the J. Robert Oppenheimer Study Center. Goodchild's April 18 seminar, titled "Augmenting Geographic Reality: Origins and Evolution of GIS," is part of the Frontiers in Geoscience Series. The Laboratory Geographic Information Systems (GIS) User Group, the Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division, and GISLab cosponsored Goodchild's visit to Los Alamos. Goodchild is considered the most prominent researcher in GIS, an area of study expected to maintain a high profile at the Lab with increasing recognition of its importance. Photo by Kevin N.
