Women's Diversity Working Group to honor Laboratory mentors

The Women's Diversity Working Group is accepting nominations for the 2002 Women's Career Development Mentoring Awards. The deadline for mentor nominations is May 3.

The award promotes the career development of women at the Laboratory by recognizing those men and women who exhibit exemplary informal or formal mentoring.

Nominees may be male or female, however, the person that is mentored must be "female." All University of California Laboratory employees or subcontract personnel are eligible for this award regardless of their employment status. A mentor or mentee's colleague may also nominate a mentor.

According to Maria Rightley of Primary Design and Assessment (X-4) and chairperson of the WDWG, six outstanding mentors received the award last year. The six recipients were Liz Foltyn of Power Source Technology (NMT-9), Mary Van Eeckhout of Energy and Environmental Analysis (D-4), Barbara Hargis of Environment Safety and Health (ESH-DO), Steven Girrens of Weapons Response (ESA-WR), Roger Pynn of the Strategic Research (ADSR) Directorate, and Robert Benjamin of Hydrodynamic Applications (DX-3).

More information about last year's award winners is on the WDWG Web page at http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/dvo/wdwg/mentor.html online.

For nomination packets or additional information concerning criteria, contact Sherry Guthrie of Protection Technology Los Alamos at 7-7884 or write to sguthrie@lanl.gov by electronic mail. Nomination forms also are available on the Women's Diversity Working Group Web page at http://www.lanl.gov/WDWG online.
