Tuesday, April 09, 2002 Students needed to serve on advisory councilNominations for students interested in serving the Student Programs Advisory Council are being accepted until April 15.To serve as an officer on the council, a student must have worked at the Lab at least 12 months or longer. However, all students, regardless of length of stay, are welcome to participate in SPAC activities, said Carole Rutten, a Laboratory student/mentor liaison in the Education Programs Office (STB-EPO). Council Chairman Dave Hobart of Actinide Analytical Chemistry (C-AAC) said the council provides guidance and recommendations for policy changes and initiatives for divisions and organizations across the Lab, including Human Resources (HR), STB-EPO and the Laboratory Education Initiatives Council. "Students are an important part of the Laboratory work force. An advocate for students, the Student Programs Advisory Committee is seeking highly motivated student volunteers to serve on SPAC," Hobart said. Students must be self-nominated or nominated by someone at the Lab. Hobart said a one-page letter of recommendation should address the students qualifications for serving on SPAC, their experience and knowledge of student programs at the Lab and changes they would make to improve student programs. Students also must obtain written permission from their supervisor or mentor. For more information, contact Rutten at 5-5194, or write to crutten@lanl.gov by electronic mail. --Michael Carlson Other Headlines North lagoons cleanup project begins at LANSCE more...
