Deadline is Sunday is to sign up for Laboratory Family Day

Laboratory workers have until this Sunday (March 31) to sign up for Family Day.

Family Day is scheduled for April 13 and a number of educational, informational and fun activities for all ages are planned, as well as guided tours of the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center at Technical Area 53 and other events.

As of mid-day Monday, more than 900 Lab workers representing 2,584 people have registered for Family Day at the event's Web page.

Laboratory workers are encouraged to bring family members to Family Day activities from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with access to secure areas from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lab workers who want to escort family members into secure work areas will need to register them in advance. The registration form is available at http://www.lanl.gov/familyday online.

Laboratory Director John Browne has issued an all employee memo on Family Day and additional information will be posted on the Family Day Web page as it become available.

Cafeteria at Otowi Building to be open for Family Day April 13

Aramark Corp., the Laboratory's food service operator, is opening its Otowi Building cafeteria at Technical Area 3 on Family Day, Saturday April 13.

Breakfast will be served from 7 to 9:30 a.m.; lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Aramark cafeterias at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center and TA-55 are closed and the Aramark Corp. catering trucks won't be in service on Family Day.

The menu includes London broil served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and green beans with almonds for $5.95, said Shane Ellard, production manager for Aramark Corp.

Fresh pasta to order also is available for $3.79. A special chicken alfredo with penne pasta and mushrooms for $4.95 includes a 22-ounce fountain soda or tea.

Ellard said there will be a number of specials including a chicken tender basket with french fries for $3.79; spicy barbecue burger with bacon and cheese with french fries for $3.79; hot turkey over Texas toast with turkey gravy and french fries for $4.25.

Pizza by the slice with assorted toppings is available for $2.65 and the baked potato and salad bars also will be open.

Assorted desserts also will be offered, said Ellard.
