April Body Bulletin newsletter is being distributed to mail stops

The April issue of the Body Bulletin newsletter is being distributed to Laboratory employee mail stops. Body Bulletin, Safety Check Solutions and the online Personal Best newsletter replace the Wellstreet Journal formerly published by Occupational Medicine (ESH-2).

"Parenting: Not a Popularity Content," is the lead article in this month's issue. Parents can review four helpful guidelines to ensure they are providing the cornerstones to their child's security.

Computer work can impair eye and wrist health. Learn guidelines for preventing eyestrain and take a quiz on repetitive stress injuries in this month's issue. Don't work in pain; visit the Laboratory's ergonomics Web site (http://int.lanl.gov/safety/ergonomics/ergonomics.shtml) for self-assessments, procedures for requesting an evaluation, stretches, medical information and more.

Cancer is one of the top killers of Americans, but according to statistics progress is being made against the disease. Read about the trends and why there may be a "Cause for Optimism."

Lighten up favorite recipes with this month's "Menu Makeovers." The recipe for this month is buttermilk crab chowder.

Spring is a time when many exercises move outdoors. Before starting a new exercise regimen, take time to review the outdoor exercise precautions in this month's issue. Readers also will learn how exercise effects appetite.

Also in this issue: health fraud clues, a stress test, prostate cancer screening guidelines, cholesterol testing and treatment in kids and facts about hypoglycemia, which is an abnormally low concentration of sugar in the blood.

Body Bulletin, Safety Check Solutions and Personal Best are publish by Scott Publishing in Edmonds, Wash., and are part of the Lab's Positive Health Directions program in ESH-2 and Compensation and Benefits (HR-1).
