Lab volunteers needed for ninth grade career fair next month at Northern New Mexico Community CollegeVolunteers from the Laboratory are needed to participate in a career fair for ninth grade students April 23 and 24 at Northern New Mexico Community College in Española. The Community Relations (CRO) Office is coordinating the Lab's participation in the fair, said Olivia Martinez of CRO, adding that the Laboratory does allow educational leave for Lab staff interested in education related activities. The fair is being held to stimulate interest in science and engineering, business and health careers, said Martinez. Women, minorities and Laboratory technicians are especially encouraged to participate, she said. "We need volunteers who like to work with kids and are willing to spend time one-on-one or in small groups talking to these kids about their careers, how they got there, what education is required [and] what the expected salary range might be," said Martinez. "I would like to see more hands-on interactive activity, so participants are encouraged to bring appropriate equipment and related materials." Martinez said faculty and staff from Northern New Mexico Community College likewise are participating in the fair, which is from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. both days. College faculty and staff will talk about education and degree programs offered by the college. Laboratory personnel interested in participating should contact Martinez at 7-4583 or write to omartinez@lanl.gov by electronic mail. --Steve Sandoval Other Headlines Women's History Month talk today in Study Center more...
