REPORT ON REGENTS' CLOSED SESSION ACTIONS
The following is a summary of actions taken Friday (Jan. 15) by the University of California Board of Regents in authorized closed session and approved for public release.
The release of certain actions or details may be delayed. Typically, such activities deal with planned acquisition of property, pending litigation, appointments that require further coordination, namings to be announced at ceremonial functions or investment decisions under implementation.
Further detail on the following items may be furnished on request. The board:
Approved execution of a 10-year lease agreement with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for or approximately 26,000 rentable square feet of classroom and office space at 425 Market St, 8th floor, San Francisco, to be used by Unviersity Extension, UC Berkeley.
Amended the groundlease between regents, as lessor, and the Irvine campus Housing Authority, a California nonprofit California corporation, as lessee, to add approximately 5.5 acres to become the site for a new University House. The building will become the chancellor's official residence and contain space for campus activities and official functions.
Amended a 1964 gift transfer agreement between the estate of late Regent Edward W. Carter and The Regents concerning the use of the Carter residence in Los Angeles.
Approved an annual base salary rate of $185,000 for Michael Eicher, vice chancellor-external affairs, UCLA, effective Jan. 1, 1999.
Appointed Michael R. Goldstein university counsel in the UC Office of the General Counsel, at an annual salary of $102,000, effective Dec. 21, 1998.
Approved the following 1998-99 merit salary increases, effective Oct. 1, 1998, for directors of the Lawrence Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos national laboratories: * Charles V. Shank (Berkeley), $257,000; * C. Bruce Tarter (Livermore), $266,000; * John Browne (Los Alamos), $260,000. The Regents also approved salary increases for other laboratory senior managers.
