Special Projects Office investigating reports of glass shards in Otowi ice dispenser, customers' drinks
The ice dispenser in the Otowi Cafeteria recently was shut down because customers reported finding pieces of blue glass in ice they used in their soft drinks. The Otowi Cafeteria manager received several complaints of glass shards in drinks on July 8, 9 and 10. Additional pieces of glass were found in the dispenser on July 8, 10 and 12. Thus far, no confirmed injuries have been reported. All incidents were reported to Industrial Hygiene and Safety (ESH-5).
An investigation team led by Bill Sprouse of the Special Projects Office (S-SPO) has ruled out the ice supplier as a source of the glass.
While the FBI has been notified of the situation, it is expected that the investigation will remain in-house. Until the situation is resolved, no ice will be served in Otowi Cafeteria's ice dispensers. Watch the Newsbulletin for more information as it becomes available.
Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Diversity Working
Group hosting facilitated discussion
The Laboratory's Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Diversity Working Group is hosting a facilitated discussion from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today featuring Tim Arnold from DuPont Corp.
The discussion is in Room 164 of the Canyon Complex on Central Avenue across from the Hilltop House Hotel.
Arnold will describe DuPont's Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians and Allies at DuPont (BGLAD) organization, said Julie Johnston of Ecology (ESH-20), acting chairperson of the Lab's Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Diversity Working Group.
Todd Conklin of the Training Integration (HR-TIO) Office will facilitate the discussion.
Dupont's BGLAD organization was established eight years ago to address workplace concerns of lesbian, gay or and bisexual employees at DuPont.
Johnston said the Lab's Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Diversity Working Group plans to hold additional facilitated discussions as it identifies and begins to implement its goals.
The facilitated discussion - a lunch will be provided to participants - is open to Laboratory employees, subcontract personnel and students. Employees interested in assisting the working group with lesbian, gay and bisexual workplace issues are encouraged to attend.
For more information, call Johnston at 5-0231, or write to juliej@lanl.gov by electronic mail.
Information on the talk also is available in a master management memo (Adobe Acrobat required).
