Quantum Institute: Visitor ScheduleThe Quantum Lunch is regularly held on Thursdays in the Theoretical Division Conference Room, TA-3, Building 123, Room 121. For more information, contact Diego Dalvit. July 2, 2007 E. A. Hinds, Cold Atoms on Atom Chips AbstractIt is now possible to confine and manipulate atoms and Bose Einstein condensates in extremely small traps and single-mode matter wave guides that amount to 2D, 1D or 0D structures. With the addition of integrated optics, such atom chips provide an emerging new technological basis for devices such as inertial sensors, clocks, magnetometers and quantum information processors. In the CCM group at Imperial College London we are developing these ideas by fabricating small structures on silicon. I will describe our progress in this direction and discuss the attractive prospects and the current difficulties. |
