Quantum Institute: Visitor ScheduleThe Quantum Lunch is regularly held on Thursdays in the Theoretical Division Conference Room, TA-3, Building 123, Room 121. For more information, contact Diego Dalvit. June 7, 2007 Matthew Hastings, Locality, Correlations, and Entanglement in Quantum Ground States AbstractThis talk will be a blackboard talk reviewing recent work on possible correlations and entanglement in quantum systems with local interactions and a spectral gap. The local interactions lead to a Lieb-Robinson bound, a powerful bound on the spread of information across the system over time. After discussing the bound, I will show how the bound leads to exponential decay of correlations in these systems. I will then apply these results to describe the change in the ground state under external perturbations, and discuss applications to matrix product states and simulation of quantum systems. |
