Studies of QCD Matter at the Large Hadron Collider

Russell Betts, University of Illinois at Chicago

The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has opened a qualitatively new window onto the study of hot hadronic (QCD) matter. The research of the past few years at RHIC has produced a number of striking results which are leading to a deeper understanding of the properties of QCD matter. It is expected that heavy ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will provide a new, and complimentary, view of the underlying physics and test the pictures emerging from the RHIC results. Some highlights from RHIC and the future prospects for the Large Hadron Collider will be discussed.
