Fluctuations by Molecular Dynamics

Berni Alder, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

In view of Einstein's 100-year-old paper on Brownian motion, the importance of fluctuations in statistical mechanical simulations are reviewed. Discussed will be fluctuation-driven resonance, fluctuation-dissipation calculations, depolarized light scattering in rare gases, corrections to Brownian motion, and fluctuation effects in hydrodynamics.

The P/T Colloquium is
typically held each
Thursday, 3:45–5:00 PM.
Refreshments are served
at 3:15 PM.
