Research Interests Philip Rae is a TSM in MST-8 and came to LANL in 2001 as a Post Doctoral student working for Rusty Gray. He has a strong background in high-strain rate studies of many materials including polymers, metals and explosives. Recently, his research has focused on mechanically characterizing polymers and explosives over a wide range of strain-rates and temperatures. This data is used to fit constitutive models for inclusion in computer codes.
Research Highlights During his PhD, Philip was also involved in developing new methods for recording dynamic strain fields during shock loading.
Education Philip has an honors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Reading (UK) and a PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge (UK).
