Research Interests Polycrystalline constitutive modeling, structural composites, finite element model development and validation, shape memory phenomena, mechanical performance under extreme temperature conditions, residual stress measurement, materials characterization tools, fatigue, creep, welding (Be, Mg, U6Nb, Al, NiTi, Cu, CuMo, Al2O3, Bulk metallic glass composites, Fe, Ni.) Developing industrial collaborations at LANSCE. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction. Practical experience includes a variety of characterization techniques including electrons, X-rays and neutrons.
Research Highlights Dr. Bourke came to LANL 1990 and developed a program with an annual budget of approximately $1M; managed teams at LANSCE and in MST-8. He has been a BES PI and PI of a construction project for a new $4.5M spectrometer, SMARTS. Since January of 2005 he has been the deputy group leader of MST-8. His publication record includes more than 140 publications in the area of characterization and modeling constitutive performance, residual stress and engineering materials.
