Electronic Materials & Devices

The Electronic Materials effort has evolved into 5 new projects:

  • Polymer Assisted Deposition
  • Ferroelectric Materials
  • Nanostructured Materials
  • Carbon Nanotubes
  • Dielectric Material

These materials efforts are for multiple uses, such as structural materials, HTS materials, solar collector materials, etc.

ACSi

Aligned-Crystalline Silicon Films on Non-Single-Crystalline Substrates

Our aligned-crystalline silicon (ACSi) film deposition process yields high-performing, near-single-crystalline silicon films on low-cost,large, non-single-crystalline substrates by using ion-beam-assisted deposition  (IBAD) texturing.  By providing improved performance ( reduced costs) of silicon-based devices, such as solar cells and flat-panel displays, ACSi technology could fundamentally alter the semiconductor industry.
