Our Heritage Month celebrations offer a diverse array of speakers, video screenings, panel discussions, and cultural entertainment to the entire Laboratory workforce. In this section are a few of the events that have occurred during the past year.
Dare to Lead - Leadership development and motivational speaker Eleanor S. Towns spoke of the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr and the impact they had upon her own career. owns is the only black female to have been a regional forester in the 100-year history of the U.S. Forest Service, and was granted Meritorious Presidential Rank by President Clinton. During her assignment, she served as the top U.S. Forest Service official during the Cerro Grande Fire in 2000.
The Tuskegee Airmen - A Diversity Cinema screening of this PBS video that describes the role of African American pilots during World War II.
Emotional Intelligence - Sandia Diversity Program Leader Rochelle Lari spoke about the professional benefits to emotional intelligence, and ways to be smart with emotions that demonstrate empathy and compassion.
Water is Spiritual - Formal Laboratory employee and Taos Tribal Council member Gil Suazo gave a tribal perspective on the importance of water in the Native American culture. Though the national celebration occurs in November to encourage fuller participation by the Laboratory workforce by avoiding potential conflicts during the holiday season.
