DOE/NNSA Accepting Comments on CMRR-EIS Until June 28

June 28 is the deadline for written public comments on the draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Nuclear Facility portion of the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Building Replacement (CMRR) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is asking for comments as part of its National Environmental Policy Act compliance. Read more

Lab Receives Recognition for Volunteerism

The Lab recently received the Corporate Volunteer Program of the Year award from VolunteerMatch. The organization chose the Lab from among its more than 140 leading companies and brands, naming it the winner in the category of 10,000 or more employees. Read more

On Friday, July 22, the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce will hold a golf tournament to benefit the United Way of Northern New Mexico. Read more

Los Alamos Student Wins Supercomputing Challenge

Cole Kendrick, of Los Alamos Middle School, won the top prize during the 21st New Mexico Supercomputing Challenge, held at the Lab. With that award came $1,000 for his research project "Computer Simulation of Dark Matter Effects on Galaxy Rotation." Read more

Employment and Training Programs Available for Local Pueblo Members

Youth and adults can benefit from the Workforce Investment Act program that provides job-training experience. Covering ages from 14 to 21, youth can receive 120 hours of paid training, and adults are eligible for 200 paid hours. Read more

LANL Students to Attend Nobel Laureates’ Meeting

Each year since 1951, Nobel Laureates have met with young "budding scientific elite" from countries around the world at the Nobel Laureate Meetings at Lindau, Germany. At this year's event, two LANL students will be in attendance. Read more

From Science Fair Project to MIT

Thanks to a $30,000 scholarship award from the Los Alamos Employees' Scholarship Fund, Majdolene Khweis will begin her studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this fall where she plans to major in environmental and civil engineering. Read more

April 16 was a day filled with excitement as more than 100 sixth- through eighth-grade students from across New Mexico raced their custom-designed hydrogen-powered cars at the 5th Annual Hydrogen Fuels Challenge in Albuquerque. Read more
