Hispanic Youth Symposium: Application Deadline is March 3
Every summer for the past three years, 150 Hispanic and Native American high school students have gathered on the Albuquerque campus of the University of New Mexico for the New Mexico Hispanic Youth Symposium, a four-day, three-night college empowerment program. Read more

Join staff at the Lab’s Bradbury Science Museum to celebrate the birthday of scientist Dmitri Mendeleev on Monday, February 8. Read more
February Student Education Reminders
During last month’s Northern New Mexico Regional Science Bowl for middle schools, Los Alamos teams took second and third place. Albuquerque Academy won the competition and will travel to Washington D.C. in April to compete in the event’s national finals. Read more
Encanto: Supercomputing goes public
Santa Fe Community College helped usher in a new era of public supercomputing late last month when Governor Bill Richardson launched access to eight “gateway� sites linked to a powerful supercomputer housed at the Intel Corp. in Rio Rancho. Read more
More MSA Teachers Graduate
The Laboratory, LANS, and New Mexico State University recently celebrated nine more graduates of the Northern New Mexico Math and Science Academy. The graduation represents the culmination of an intensive three-year program assisting rural teachers to acquire a Master of Arts degree in Teaching Math and Science. Read more

Lab Exceeds 2009 Subcontracting Goal
The Lab’s goal was to subcontract 46 percent of its total procurement volume to small businesses during 2009. Efforts by our Small Business Office and Acquisition Services Management Division, along with other Lab organizations, resulted in 49.9 percent of total procurement dollars going to small businesses—exceeding that goal. 2009 NMSBA Report Released
Almost $4 million was invested in 320 small businesses during 2009 through the New Mexico Small Business Assistance Program (NMSBA), a collaborative effort between the State of New Mexico and Los Alamos and Sandia national labs. Read more
Mail In and Be Counted: The 2010 Census Is Coming
The extent of government funding that communities will receive for healthcare, education, and even infrastructure during the next ten years will be determined by the results of this year’s census. Read more
