LANL Foundation Scholarship Deadline January 18
Launched by Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and its employees, retirees, and contractors in 1998, the Los Alamos Employees' Scholarship Fund has provided almost $3 million to regional students so far. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is January 18, so it's not too early to start working on an application. Read more
Successful Food Drive Ends
This year’s Thanksgiving food drive was a rousing success with enough food and turkeys collected to fill 688 food baskets. Food was distributed to the San Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen, Taos Feeds Taos, Espanola Valley Toy Run Inc,. St Vincent de Paul, Wings of Hope, St. Elizabeth Shelter, and Adelante Program for homeless students. Read more

NASA Scholarships Available
In conjunction with the Hispanic College Fund, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) MUST Project will accept applications through February 1, 2011. Each year, the program supports 100 undergraduate students who are deemed to be underrepresented and underserved in STEM fields by U.S. Census and American Community Survey data. Read more

Lab Launches New Publication
The Lab’s Communications Office has launched a new quarterly online publication titled Why. Its first issue contains articles on the nation’s energy infrastructure, Manhattan Project history, how Lab scientists are working to create the world’s strongest magnetic field, and even looks into “a day in the life” of two Lab employees. Lab Debuts Hybrid Garbage Truck
The Lab has begun using a diesel-hydraulic hybrid truck for daily garbage pickup, improving fuel efficiency by 30 percent and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by even more.Read more
