Physical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy

The Physical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy Group focuses on research problems that require an integrated approach involving scientific, engineering, and modeling disciplines in physical chemistry and applied spectroscopy. We perform basic and applied research in support of the Laboratory’s national security mission and serve a wide range of customers.

SERS for catalysis.

A new method of using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) that can be used to catalyze and monitor chemicalreactions garnered the cover of ChemComm in 2013.The technique has been recognized as a powerful and non-destructive tool for chemical analysis and sensing applications due to its high sensitivity and specificity.
