Current Projects

Sialic Acid Project:

This work involves an investigation into the reasons behind differences in susceptibility to avian influenza across all avian taxa.  We are interested in how phylogenetic position influences a bird’s immunological response to avian influenza for reasons of basic biological interest, as well as to inform a more focused highly pathogenic avian influenza surveillance effort.  This project integrates work at the molecular, cellular, physiological, and ecological levels and occurs both in the field and in the laboratory.
