Deadline for regional grants for nonprofit organizations is September 15

The LANL Major Subcontractors Consortium will provide Industry Cluster Development Grants from $2,500 to $12,500 for regional nonprofits. Their purpose is to fund economic development and industry-cluster enhancement projects in Los Alamos, Mora, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Taos and pueblos located in these counties. The grant applications are due by September 15.

To qualify, applicants must have:

  • A demonstrated track record of diversifying the economy in one or more of these rural counties
  • An implemented long-term sustainability strategy
  • Proven and diverse community support

The LANL Major Subcontractors Consortium is a collaboration of Los Alamos National Laboratory’s major subcontractors and was created to strategically align and pool resources in support of economic development, educational, and civic improvement projects in the Northern New Mexico.

Regional Development Corporation wins award for Northern New Mexico 2020 Campaign

The goal of the Northern New Mexico 2020 Campaign is to develop at least 20 high-growth businesses in the region by the year 2020. The organization that heads these efforts up, the Regional Development Corporation (RDC), was recently recognized for its outstanding economic development marketing achievement efforts by the New Mexico Rural Alliance when it won “Best Signature Event.” Kathy Keith, the RDC’s executive director, accepted the award on behalf of the organization.

Not resting on its laurels, the RDC is about to announce the nominations for this year’s Northern New Mexico 2020 Campaign and those chosen for the awards will be recognized at a ceremony scheduled for October 3.

The Laboratory is a sponsor of the Northern New Mexico 20/20 Campaign as well an active supporter of the RDC.

Northern New Mexico College receives $600,000 grant to support engineering students

Northern New Mexico College has been awarded $621,000 by the National Science Foundation's project for Engineering S-STEM. The funds will be used by the organization to provide at least 184 one-semester scholarships to enhance the recruitment of full-time students into baccalaureat engineering programs. The scholarships will include tuition and living support and provide underrepresented Hispanic and Native American students with favorable conditions for education, research and career opportunities. The five-year grant will run until August 2018.

Additional activities covered by the monies include helping prepare students for graduate school, mentoring, job-training opportunities and assistance to find employment with local industry.

The Lab has a formal agreement with the College to advance regional education initiatives.
