Circuits of light

This artistic conceptualization of circuits made of light represents a new capability that could lead to advanced sensor systems, quantum information processing technology, and more. Instead of electrons flowing along conducting wires, a new kind of “atomtronic” circuitry recently demonstrated by two Los Alamos physicists uses ultracold atoms flowing along paths traced out by laser light.

Read more about this promising new technology in the cover story, "Circuits of Atoms on Wires of Light," from March 2016’s 1663 Science and Technology Magazine.
