Unions, LANL sign labor agreements

The New Mexico Building and Construction Trades Council and Los Alamos National Security LLC, have announced the signing of a series of labor agreements to cover construction and maintenance work under contract with the Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

These agreements affect nearly 750 construction and maintenance workers currently represented by the unions signatory to the agreements—agreements which will be in effect through September of 2017.

“This is by far the largest sustained concentration of construction craft workers in the state, and perhaps the entire Southwest,” said Ray M. Baca, executive director for the union council.

“This agreement is the culmination of a decades long relationship with the Laboratory—one that has provided long-term, family supporting careers for thousands of construction workers in Northern and Central New Mexico,” said Baca.

“The men and women of our craft workforce are crucial partners in the Laboratory’s success,” said Director Charlie McMillan. “Their services literally keep the lights on and the doors open. The Lab values and respects the collective bargaining units and the work that they do, as well as our long-standing relationship with the New Mexico Building and Construction Trades Council.”
