Repaving on West Jemez Road scheduled to begin August 2
Section of Pajarito Road also to be repaved later this summer
August 2, 2010—Milling and paving operations are scheduled to begin August 2 and will run through September 30 on West Jemez and Pajarito roads.
West Jemez Road will be done first. Work will begin near the S-Site entrance and proceed east in two separate sections of West Jemez Road to Camp May Road. Workers will remove the existing pavement, a process called cold milling, and repave the roadway.
When work on West Jemez Road is finished, crews will move to Pajarito Road, where milling and repaving of the road occurs from Technical Area 46 to near the White Rock intersection of NM 4, a total of 3.5 miles.
Marcon Excavating is the general contractor for the work. They are scheduled to work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Flag persons will direct motorists and bicyclists through the work area; they should follow directions of flag persons. Pedestrians also must follow vehicle requirements in road construction areas. Use extreme caution and reduce speed when approaching the construction zone. Delays are expected during the day while work is under way.
