June 11, 2010—Saying that he was proud of Laboratory employees and retirees for their volunteer efforts in local communities, Deputy Laboratory Director Ike Richardson joined Los Alamos National Security, LLC and the Community Programs Office in recognizing employee and retiree volunteers during a ceremony at Fuller Lodge.
Nearly 200 nonprofit organizations received a total of $117,000 in monetary donations from LANS on behalf of Laboratory employees who support them by volunteering and who reported their hours through the Lab's VolunteerMatch program.
Richardson noted that since the Laboratory began partnering with VolunteerMatch, employees and retirees have reported 450,000 volunteer hours, including 193,400 volunteer hours in 2009.
"I want to thank all of the 1,900 volunteers, employees and retirees, who are volunteering and taking the time to improve the communities where we live and work," said Richardson, who later posed for photos with employees and retirees accepting checks on behalf of the nonprofits.
"You are an asset to your community, and to Los Alamos National Laboratory," Richardson continued. "Thank you for making a real difference in our communities."
