New deputy principal director for Weapons Infrastructure selected
October 15, 2010—Craig Leasure is the new deputy principal director for Weapons Programs responsible for the coordination, management, and integration of the Weapons Infrastructure Program (PADWP-WI). Leasure has been in the position in an acting capacity for several months. Charles McMillan, principal associate director for Weapons Programs (PADWP) made the announcement on Wednesday.
In making the announcement, McMillan said in a PADWP memo, “Craig is well known at the Laboratory and DOE/HQ for his experience in the weapons program, facility and security operations, and for his ability to lead complex technical organizations and programs with large fiscal, programmatic, and operational responsibilities.”
“I’m honored that Charlie would choose to pick me for the job,” said Leasure. “The people across the Laboratory who work in weapons infrastructure have been simply terrific for the past few months while I’ve been acting DPAD. I’m really looking forward to continuing these really positive working relationships. There’s a lot of hard work ahead.”
In order to support the Laboratory’s weapons missions, the infrastructure program is responsible for ensuring the long-term viability of existing facilities and planning for future infrastructure needs. PADWP-WI provides program planning, budgeting, integration, management/oversight, and accountability for the Readiness in Technical Base and Facilities (RTBF) Program, including Line Item Construction and Facilities and Infrastructure Recapitalization Program (FIRP).
After working at Lockheed Engineering, Leasure joined the Laboratory in 1990 as a group leader. He has held various weapons program and office director positions. Leasure served as the principal deputy associate director for the Security and Facility Operations where he led the site-wide responsibilities for security, facility operations, emergency operations, site planning, and oversight of major support services and security subcontracts. In 2006, he returned to the weapons program, where he served as the deputy associate director for the Weapons Directorate (previously Weapons Engineering).
