LANL earns high marks from community leaders
January 4, 2012—Northern New Mexico community leaders continue to give the Laboratory high marks in the areas of corporate citizenship, economic development, education, and partnering with local governments.
Since 1998, LANL has contracted with the Albuquerque firm Research and Polling, Inc., to conduct the Community Leaders Survey. Nearly 250 community leaders responded to the survey.
The survey consisted of 28 questions designed to elicit opinions on the Lab's regional programs and interactions.
2011 survey results
Among the findings were the following:
- 78 percent of respondents have a favorable opinion of the Lab. Only 4 percent have an unfavorable opinion
- 93 percent indicated they're satisfied with the overall impact of the Lab on the economy in New Mexico; 64 percent are satisfied with the Lab's economic development programs
- 68 percent of respondents said the Lab is a good corporate citizen; only 5 percent rated LANL as unacceptable in this category
- 79 percent of respondents are satisified with LANL's employee giving efforts and program, including drives, volunteering initiatives and the like
- 86 percent are satisfied with LANL's education programs, and 84 percent are satisfied with LANL's overall impact on education within the region
- 79 percent are satisfied with LANL's efforts to listen to perspectives of the Northern New Mexico community; 71 percent of community leaders are satisfied with the methods available to communicate their needs, concerns, and ideas to the Lab.
“It’s good to know that the Lab is continuing to make progress,” said LANL Community Programs Office Director Kurt Steinhaus. “I'm especially pleased that our overall favorability rating continues to be high, but LANL management recognizes that there is always room for improvement, and we’ll work to become even better neighbors.”
