CMRR Environmental Study: How you can comment
May 19, 2011—A series of hearings and written comment periods will give the public, including LANL employees, opportunities to weigh in on environmental aspects of key LANL and NNSA activities.
Lab employees, as private citizens, have every right to submit written comments and/or speak at public hearings.
In the first opportunity, the CMRR Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement is currently out for public comment. The study describes the possible environmental and socioeconomic impacts of the proposed action.
CMRR public comment schedule
Public comment hearings on the CMRR SEIS are scheduled as follows:
- Monday, May 23, from 5 to 9 p.m., Albuquerque Marriott, Salon F, 2101 Louisiana Boulevard, NE, Albuquerque, NM
- Tuesday, May 24, from 5 to 9 p.m., Holiday Inn Express, 60 Entrada Drive, Los Alamos, NM.
- Wednesday, May 25, from 5 to 9 p.m., Santa Claran Hotel, 464 N. Riverside Drive, Espanola, NM
- Thursday, May 26, from 5 to 9 p.m., Santa Fe Community College, Jemez Rooms, 6401 Richards Avenue, Santa Fe, NM
Written comments may be e-mailed from a nongovernment e-mail account to NEPALASO@doeal.gov. For more information or to read the CMRR SEIS, see NNSA’s dedicated webpage.
The comment period for the CMRR SEIS remains open until June 28, 2011.
Open detonation permit is next
Later this summer, the Lab will file a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act application to continue open detonation of high-explosive wastes. Watch this space for comment opportunities.
Regulatory bodies can benefit from hearing points of view from Lab employees, and Lab programs that operate under these laws and regulations appreciate the support.
As always, if you choose to comment
- Remember you're commenting as a private citizen rather than as a representative of the Lab
- Use a nongovernment e-mail account
- Take care to reveal no security sensitive information.
