Lab's economic development efforts touted in April issue of Connections
Apr. 9, 2010—The Laboratory has long been a major supporter of the Northern New Mexico economy. In the April issue of the Connections online newsletter, read about how the Lab continues to invest in Northern New Mexico through economic development, community giving, and science education outreach.
Community Programs Office Director Kurt Steinhaus talks about the Lab and Los Alamos National Security, LLC's strategy for helping create new businesses, resources available at Los Alamos, and partnerships in place to aid in this effort. "As an adjunct to our national security missions, the Lab creates and discovers cutting-edge technologies that have applicability in meeting corporate and consumer needs. With assistance from the Lab's Technology Transfer Division and LANS funding though Northern New Mexico Connect, several of these new technologies have led to successful business ventures in Northern New Mexico. As a result, the local entrepreneurial community is growing and maturing," he said.
The April Connections also has information on upcoming science education events in which the Lab is a partner, including a new program at University of New Mexico-Los Alamos designed to help recent high school graduates or GED recipients better prepare themselves for college, and the upcoming Alternative Fuel Challenge later this month in Albuquerque.
Connections also links to a calendar of upcoming community events. Published monthly by the Community Programs Office, Connections is distributed to interested parties across the state.
