Parney Albright named director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
October 27, 2011—Penrose “Parney” C. Albright has been named director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The appointment takes effect December 1. Albright also will serve as president of Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC.
Appointed with the concurrence of the Department of Energy, Albright is the 11th director of Livermore since it was established in 1952. He replaces George Miller, who is stepping down after six years as director and a 40-year career of service to the nation and Livermore.
Albright joined LLNL in 2009 as the principal associate director of Global Security, the lab’s program for applying science and technology to the nation’s effort in counterterrorism, nonproliferation, defense, intelligence and energy needs. He also has more than 20 years of experience in the federal government and the private sector.
Director Charlie McMillan offered congratulations to Parney Albright on his selection as the 11th director of LLNL.
"Parney Albright is an excellent choice to lead Livermore. I've known and worked with Parney for several years," McMillan said. "Our laboratories have always been linked in service to the nation: our scientists review their designs, and their scientists review ours. These collaborations have led to transformational discoveries in national security science and I look forward to many more. As I thank my colleague George Miller for his service, I welcome and congratulate Parney Albright," he added.
