Los Alamos National Laboratory employees, Lab contractor pledge record $2.5 million to local United Way organizations, other nonprofits
LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico, November 18, 2010—Los Alamos National Laboratory employees have again demonstrated concern for their communities and those in need by pledging a record $1.5 million to United Way and other eligible nonprofit programs.
Los Alamos National Security, LLC, which operates the Laboratory, plans to prorate its $1 million match among the selected nonprofit organizations, bringing the total donation to $2.5 million.
“Our Los Alamos employees can take pride in this accomplishment,” Deputy Laboratory Director and this year’s campaign champion Ike Richardson said of this year’s pledged amount. “The LANL team raised $1.5 million, which surpassed last year’s total of $1.3 million by a significant amount.
“Yet again, Laboratory personnel have shown through their generosity that their community is important to them and that they are eager to help those around them,” said Richardson, adding that numerous organizations hosted special events, including bake sales, a used book sale, and several online auctions to raise money for this year’s campaign.
The Laboratory employee contributions will fund a number of United Way agencies and programs as well as other eligible nonprofit organizations.
