High Tech Halloween is Friday at Bradbury Science Museum

LOS ALAMOS, N.M., Oct. 29, 2003 -- "Bodies and Bones" is the theme for the Bradbury Science Museum's 10th annual High-Tech Halloween from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Halloween Day.

"Science-based activities turn Halloween into a learning experience that will captivate kindergarten- and elementary-school-age children," said Pat Berger of the museum, part of Los Alamos National Laboratory's Community Relations Office.

" 'Bodies and Bones' says it all; cow eye dissections, brain explanations, and bones large and small, are pulled together to create fun and learning opportunities," Berger said.

High-Tech Halloween is held in conjunction with many downtown merchants who take part in Los Alamos' Main Street Halloween activities.

Berger said High-Tech Halloween strives for variety and excitement every year. "Folks on and off the hill look forward to taking their children to this special evening of science and fun," she said.

Registration is not needed, but parents or responsible adults are asked to accompany their children. Costumes are encouraged for children and adults.

Berger said the museum is using the event to kick off a month-long collection of nonperishable foods for those in need. Food donations will be accepted at the museum on Halloween or anytime during the month of November. The food items collected will benefit area food banks and is being coordinated through Los Alamos' Community Relations Office.

Museum hours, apart from special events, are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There is no admission charge to the museum. The museum is located at 15th Street and Central Avenue downtown.
