Edmonds addresses economic implications of climate change

LOS ALAMOS, N.M., Sept. 23, 2003 -- Experts believe that addressing global climate change is likely to involve a revolutionary transformation of the global energy system. In a seminar sponsored by Los Alamos National Laboratory's Energy and Environment Council and College of Santa Fe, economist and climate change expert Jae Edmonds will discuss some of the most promising technological solutions for climate change and the economic implications of applying environmentally-friendly energy technologies.

The seminar, entitled Energy, Technology, and Climate Change, will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 at the College of Santa Fe. Edmonds is a well-known author and expert on climate change and the interactions between energy, technology, policy, and the environment. A lead author for all three major assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, he has frequently testified before Congress, and has briefed the vice president and the president's cabinet on climate issues. Edmonds, who received his Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University in 1974, is a senior staff scientist and technical leader of Economic Programs at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Joint Global Change Research Institute, a collaboration with the University of Maryland, and an adjunct professor of public policy at the University of Maryland.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the College of Santa Fe Forum located next to the Fogelson Library.
