LOS ALAMOS, N.M., March 18, 2002 -- Two contracts totaling nearly $3 million were recently awarded by the Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Laboratory to Cook’s and Hacienda home centers in Española.

Cook’s Home Center received a $1.6 million Just-In-Time subcontract, while Hacienda Home Center received a $1.3 million subcontract. The contracts are for three years, explained Florence Serna, a contract administrator in Los Alamos’ Procurement Group. The contracts also contain options to increase their length an additional four years, said Serna.

The two businesses will primarily be supplying building supplies, hardware and lumber to the Laboratory, much of it for work done by the Laboratory’s largest subcontract company, Johnson Controls Northern New Mexico.

“These businesses have developed online user friendly catalogs and have established automated computer ordering capabilities,” said Serna. “These JIT subcontracts will be implemented and fully operational [today].

“We are happy to have these businesses on board, and their contributions will enhance our Northern New Mexico initiatives,” Serna added. “We wish them well in this new endeavor and know that we will have a win-win partnership.”

Frankie Manzanares, Bill Baum and Kelly Armstrong are the primary points of contact at Cook’s Home Center, while Floyd Vigil and Cordie Quintana are primary points of contact at Hacienda Home Center for these contracts.
