LOS ALAMOS, N.M., Sept. 20, 2001 - The Small Business Office at the Department of Energy's Los Alamos National Laboratory is conducting two free workshops Sept. 25 and 26 on the federal Price Anderson Amendment Act and how it affects small businesses that do business with Los Alamos.

The workshops are from 9 a.m. to noon, Sept. 25 and 1 to 4 p.m., the following day in the Cities of Gold Hotel in Pojoaque.

The federal Price Anderson Amendment Act requires the Laboratory to follow established quality assurance, operations and safety guidelines. Moe Zamora of Los Alamos' Small Business Office said the Department of Energy will require the Laboratory to have its subcontractors put in place a formal quality assurance program.

"Many large businesses already have quality assurance programs in place. They don't need any help," said Zamora. "It's the small businesses that need to be aware that this requirement is coming down the pike," said Zamora.

Five presenters from Los Alamos' Environment, Safety and Health and Business Operations divisions versed in the requirements of the Price Anderson Amendment Act will lead the workshops.

Pre-registration for the workshops is required; call the Small Business Office at 667-4419.

For more information, contact Zamora at 667-4410, extension six, or write to sbo@lanl.gov by electronic mail. Or go to http://buynorthern.lanl.gov/Training/Price_Anderson.htm online.

Los Alamos National Laboratory is operated by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.
