Laboratory's Bradbury Science Museum reopens on FridayContact: Steve Sandoval, steves@lanl.gov, (505) 665-9206 (99-070) LOS ALAMOS, N.M., May 25, 2000 -- The Bradbury Science Museum of the Department of Energy's Los Alamos National Laboratory's in downtown Los Alamos reopens on Friday (May 26). The museum has been closed since the Cerro Grande Fire forced Laboratory operations to shut down on May 7, said John Rhoades, director of the Bradbury Science Museum, which is part of Los Alamos' Community Relations Office. "This is an especially poignant time for reopening parts of Los Alamos," Rhoades said. "This Friday marks the beginning of Memorial weekend. We will gather to thank the nation's past heroes who made monumental and self sacrificing efforts for our country. At the same time, we want to give thanks to the people and businesses of New Mexico for their monumental efforts and contributions to Los Alamos and its residents in the catastrophic fire." Rhoades noted that other areas of interest in Los Alamos County and open to the public include the Los Alamos Historical Museum and Bandelier National Monument. Most restaurants, service stations and other businesses are also open. Access to certain areas in town is restricted and the National Forest behind Los Alamos is closed to the public. The Bradbury Science Museum is located at Central Avenue and 15th Street downtown. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday through Monday. Admission is free and all ages are welcome. For more information, contact Pat Berger of the museum at 665-0896. More news releases from the Community and External Relations Division (CER) |
